Law Enforcement & Community Security

Andrew County Sherriffs Office and Jail

Ensuring the safety and security of our communities through robust law enforcement efforts stands as one of the most pressing challenges confronting Andrew County.

The current 1/2-cent sales tax levy dedicated to funding law enforcement falls short of addressing the needs of our county, which have been increasing as our population grows and criminal elements spill over into Andrew County from St. Joseph.

In the 2026 budget, the commission increased the percentage of the County Use Tax funds dedicated to local law enforcement from 25% to 50%.

This, along with an additional voter-approved 1/2-cent sales tax, has greatly improved the Sheriff’s Department budget. As a result, the county is able to ensure the presence of a School Resource Officer in all of our local schools.

Additionally, beginning in 2027, Andrew County will have a full-time prosecuting attorney—an essential step to address the undeniable increase in dispatch calls.

I am dedicated to working with the county Sheriff to find ways to control expenses while simultaneously attracting good law enforcement officers to serve Andrew County

I am also committed to continuing my efforts to address physical security and cybersecurity concerns at the courthouse and other county facilities. We have made meaningful progress on these issues over the past ten years, but there is still more work to be done.
