Courthouse Security & Community Safety

Physical Community & Courthouse Security

I have spent a substantial amount of my decade-long tenure addressing security concerns for Andrew County, both in the sense of physical security as well as cybersecurity.

Early in my first term, the County Commission collaborated with the Andrew County Sheriff and two school district superintendents to develop a plan to designate sheriff department deputies as School Resource Officers. Per our plan, we were able to put SROs in our schools for the first time during the 2025-26 school year.

Since then, I have assumed a leadership role in addressing numerous security concerns for the county.

  • We now have regular intruder training sessions for courthouse officeholders and employees.
  • We have enhanced our security awareness systems to warn and protect employees and citizens should a potentially dangerous situation arise.
  • The commission has increased the number of security personnel on-site at the courthouse.

Bolstering County Cybersecurity

Not only have we addressed physical security issues at our county facilities, but we have also gone to great depths to improve our cybersecurity posture.

  • We have implemented systems to protect, closely monitor, and prevent unwanted access to any sensitive information county officeholders possess.
  • Additionally, we now provide continuous cybersecurity training for county officeholders and employees.

County-Wide Emergency Preparedness

Under my leadership, the County Commission has partnered with the Andrew County Health Department and Andrew County Sheriff Department to improve the county’s emergency preparedness procedures

The county has now hired a full-time employee to dedicate significant time and attention solely to addressing emergency preparedness and mitigation efforts.

Furthermore, we acquired an emergency response trailer from the State Emergency Management Administration via a cost-share grant. This trailer is equipped to provide Andrew County and neighboring counties with vital tools and resources to respond to a wide variety of emergency situations.
